Conference registrations for affected communities/community volunteers

Please read the guidelines below before completing the online application.

The Union is pleased to offer 100 free registrations1 to the 46th Union World Conference on Lung Health for individuals affected by lung disease or community volunteers2. Individuals from low- and middle-income countries will be given priority, as will those who are presenting at the conference, including in the community space.

Please note that if you are an invited speaker or author of an abstract, you may also apply for a travel grant at http://capetown.worldlunghealth.org/registration/travel-grants-for-speakers-and-authors. You may use the same application materials for both applications, but they need to be uploaded as separate online applications. The Union has committed to providing five travel grants to affected communities/community volunteers for the upcoming conference in Cape Town.

Who will review the applications

The applications for free registration will be reviewed by the Chair(s) and two other members of the Community Advisory Panel (CAP), The Union's Coordinating Community of Scientific Activites (CCSA), the CCSA community representative, and one member of the Bureau or Executive Management Team.

Minimum eligibility criteria

  • Involved in efforts to address lung health
  • Affected by lung disease or a community volunteer working with those affected by lung disease
Application process

By Monday, 7 September, applicants must complete the online application AND submit a motivation letter AND two letters of support, as outlined below:
  1. One-page letter of motivation that covers the following points:
    • Your current activities in lung health
    • What your contribution to the conference will be
    • How your attendance at the conference will advance your efforts to combat lung disease when you return home.
  2. Two letters of support, one from a peer and one from an institution (e.g., NGO, government, association, umbrella organisation)

This call for applications will be open until 7 September 2015. Applicants will be notified about the status of their application at the end of September.

1 The number of free conference registrations offered will be determined annually by The Union, based upon available funds.

2 Affected is defined as individuals who have had TB or live with chronic lung disease or who have personally cared for someone who does.
